Privacy policy
This policy explains what information Momo collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. We've tried to keep it plain and short enough to actually read.
1. Who we are
Momo is a habit tracker operated by Yogesh Tak, an individual developer based in India ("Momo", "we", "us"). This policy covers the Momo apps for iPhone and Android and the website at momohabits.com. For anything about your data, email support@momohabits.com.
2. Information we collect
When you use the app
- Account details: your email address and password. Passwords are stored hashed by our authentication provider. We never see or store them in plain text.
- What you track: your habits (names, icons, colours, goals, reminder times), daily check-ins, streaks, badges, XP and coins, your Momo's growth, looks, decor and places, your challenge and Premium status, and the display name you choose.
- Settings: theme, reminder tone, which nudges you've turned on and similar preferences.
- Diagnostics: if the app crashes or hits an error, a report is sent to Sentry. It includes technical details such as the error and where it happened, device model, operating system and version, app version, and the time. These reports help us fix bugs and are not used for advertising.
When you use the website
- Feature requests: if you submit an idea, we store its title, details and category, and your email address only if you choose to give it. Ideas (without emails) are shown publicly on the board.
- Votes: to count one vote per visitor, your browser keeps a random, anonymous ID in its local storage. It isn't linked to your name, email or app account.
- Account page: if you sign in at momohabits.com/account, your browser talks directly to our authentication provider using the same account details as the app.
- Technical data: like any website, our servers receive your IP address and basic request information (browser type, pages requested). We use it to keep the site running, limit spam and abuse, and investigate problems.
What we don't collect
We don't collect your location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera data, health data from other apps, or advertising identifiers. We don't use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking.
3. How we use your information
- To provide the app: save your habits and progress, sync them across your devices, grow your Momo, and show your stats and badges.
- To send the reminders and nudges you turn on, in the tone you choose.
- To run the free trial, the 21-day challenge and earned Premium, and to check subscription status.
- To find and fix crashes and bugs, and to keep Momo secure and prevent abuse.
- To answer your support emails and, if you left an email with a feature request, to tell you about it.
- To decide what to build next, using feature requests and votes.
We don't sell your personal information, we don't share it for advertising, and we don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
4. Momo's AI-written lines
Momo can write short, friendly lines for you, such as a daily thought or a reminder message, based on your habits.
- On supported iPhones, these lines are generated on your device using Apple's built-in model. Nothing is sent to us or anyone else for this.
- On Android and other iPhones, the app sends your habit names and a short description of each (for example, "Read, 12-day streak") through our server to Anthropic, which runs the Claude AI model, to write the lines. We don't send your email address, account details or your full history.
- Anthropic processes this data only to generate the response for us under its commercial terms, and doesn't use it to train its models.
- Every line is checked again by the app before it's shown. If anything fails, the app uses its built-in lines instead.
6. Payments
Subscriptions are purchased and billed through the App Store or Google Play. We never see or store your card or payment details. We only receive confirmation of whether you have an active subscription so we can unlock Premium.
7. Legal bases for processing
Where laws such as the EU/UK GDPR or India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 apply, we rely on:
- Contract: to provide the app and the features you ask for.
- Legitimate interests: to fix bugs, keep Momo secure, prevent abuse and improve the product, in ways that don't override your rights.
- Consent: for optional things like reminders, AI-written lines, and leaving your email with a feature request. You can withdraw consent at any time in the app or by contacting us.
8. How long we keep it
- Account and app data: for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, it's removed from our live database immediately and from backups within 30 days.
- Crash reports: up to 90 days.
- Feature requests: until they're removed from the board. If you left an email, we'll delete it on request.
- Website logs: up to 30 days.
We may keep limited information for longer if the law requires it or to resolve disputes.
9. Where your data is stored
Momo is run from India. Your app data is stored with Supabase in Singapore, and some of our providers (such as Sentry, Anthropic and Render) process data in the United States. Wherever your data goes, we rely on our providers' contractual and security safeguards to protect it as described in this policy.
10. Security
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Database access rules make sure each account can only read and change its own data. Passwords are hashed, and access to production systems is limited. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information. If we learn of a breach that affects you, we'll notify you and the authorities as the law requires.
11. Your rights and choices
- Access and export: export a copy of your data in the app from Me, then Settings, or email us for a copy.
- Correction: edit your habits, name and settings in the app at any time, or ask us to correct something.
- Deletion: delete your account and data at any time (see below).
- Reminders and AI lines: turn reminders, nudges and notifications on or off in the app or your device settings.
- Objection and withdrawal of consent: object to processing based on legitimate interests, or withdraw consent, by contacting us.
- Complaints: you can complain to your local data protection authority or, in India, the Data Protection Board of India. We'd appreciate the chance to help first.
Email support@momohabits.com to exercise any of these rights. We'll reply within 30 days and may need to verify that the account is yours.
12. Deleting your account
You can delete your Momo account and all its data in any of these ways:
- In the app: go to Me, then Settings, then Delete account.
- On the web: sign in at momohabits.com/account and choose Delete account.
- By email: write to support@momohabits.com from the email address on your account and we'll delete it within 30 days.
What's deleted: your account, email address, habits, check-ins, streaks, badges, XP, coins, Momo's progress and settings.
What isn't: deleting your account doesn't cancel a subscription. Cancel it in your App Store or Google Play settings, and note that Apple and Google keep their own purchase records. Feature requests on the website aren't linked to your app account; email us if you'd like one removed.
13. Children
Momo is for people aged 13 and over. If you're under 18, please use Momo with a parent's or guardian's permission where your local law requires it. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Momo changes. We'll update the date at the top, and if a change is significant we'll let you know in the app before it takes effect.
